Vijayabaskar resigned from AIADMK with a blistering statement accusing party general secretary Edappadi Palanisami of betrayal for attempting to align with DMK, which Jayalalithaa had labelled an 'evil force'. Both M.R. Vijayabaskar and C. Vijayabaskar are set to formally join Chief Minister Vijay's TVK party on July 2 with over 15,000 supporters, reducing AIADMK's assembly strength to 41 and leaving Karur as Tamil Nadu's seventh vacant constituency.
