Tamil Nadu Government Hospital Nurses Resume 'Demand Card' Silent Protest

The Tamil Nadu Nurses Development Association has been conducting a sustained agitation demanding that retrenchment measures in government hospitals be withdrawn.

As part of the protest, nurses worked wearing demand cards from 29 July to 30 July 2026 — a three-day silent demonstration calling for the cancellation of Government Order 204 and the rollback of retrenchment actions.

With no plan or action forthcoming from the government on either demand, the association decided to extend the 'demand card' protest for another three days, from 3 August to 5 August, alongside a parallel campaign to deliver written petitions to every Member of the Legislative Assembly across the state.

Accordingly, nurses working in government hospitals throughout Tamil Nadu have once again reported for duty wearing the demand cards today. The association has urged the government to listen to their long-standing demands and act without further delay.
