Stalin Warns Farmer Agitations Will Intensify If Demands Go Unmet, Slams Vijay Government Over Cauvery Silence

DMK president MK Stalin, in a post on X, said the following:

The party gathered in Thanjavur under the leadership of opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin to stand with Cauvery farmers. If the demands of the farming community are not met, the struggle will only intensify.

On the day of Aadi Perukku — when the Cauvery should be in full flood — the Delta farmers are protesting in anguish. I extend the gratitude of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to all allied party leaders who participated in this protest to voice the sentiments of the farming community — including Jawahirullah, Tamimun Ansari, and Nellai Mubarak — as well as party functionaries and representatives of various farmer associations.

Cauvery water that should have arrived by June 12 has still not come even after August has begun. The sons of the Cauvery banks, who traditionally welcome the fresh floods on the 18th day of Aadi, are now drowned in sorrow because of the laziness of the anti-farmer Vijay government.

Tamil Nadu is now witnessing a Chief Minister who has not spoken a single word against the Karnataka government for refusing to release water to our state. Are you going to mortgage our farmers' livelihoods just so your film can run in the neighbouring state?

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government, which won the election with a promise of full farm loan waiver dangled like a ripe banana, is now conducting itself as a fraudulent administration that has betrayed farmers.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is eager to hold talks with Karnataka, which is adamant about building the Mekedatu dam. Did he watch the news of Karnataka's all-party meeting held yesterday? Does the Chief Minister have no time to convene a similar all-party meeting here?

Will your sins be washed away if you ignore the farmers without meeting them and take the agricultural budget off to Tirupati? The man who played a self-sufficient farmer on screen is maintaining a cunning silence — not even condemning the arrest of our farmers in Nagpur.

DMK's demands:

  • The TVK government must honour its promise and implement a full farm loan waiver without further delay
  • A special Kuruvai relief package must be provided and Delta districts declared drought-affected
  • The government must act decisively to protect Tamil Nadu's rightful share of Cauvery water

Until these demands are met, the party's struggle will continue.
