Former minister and senior AIADMK leader S.P. Velumani has declared he will not accept the post of Deputy General Secretary reportedly offered by party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
Speaking at a consultation meeting held in Coimbatore with his loyal party functionaries, Velumani made his position clear:
"Nine district secretaries have stood by me and joined me. I cannot simply accept a post while leaving them behind. I do not need any position for myself. All those who trusted and followed me must be reinstated with responsibilities. I am not prepared to accept the post of Deputy General Secretary while abandoning them."
Velumani's remarks have triggered fresh controversy within the AIADMK, adding a new dimension to the ongoing internal power struggle in the principal opposition party.
