Every government in Tamil Nadu traditionally holds an annual conference of district collectors and police officers to review law and order, government schemes, and key administrative matters. In keeping with this tradition, a two-day conference of all district collectors and police officers was convened at the Secretariat in Chennai under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vijay.
Two sessions were held on the first day. The first session saw collectors and police officers participate together, while the second session included government department secretaries and district collectors.
Chief Minister Vijay inaugurated the conference and addressed the gathering: "The people have elected this government to be transparent, honest, and corruption-free — a government for social justice. We must pay maximum attention to basic services such as ration distribution, education, drinking water, healthcare, electricity, roads, and bus connectivity."
On law and order, he stated: "You may act independently on the basis of the law. Whoever has committed a wrong — no matter how high their position — must face prompt, swift legal action without bias, and appropriate punishment must be ensured. Even so, not a single innocent person must inadvertently be harmed."
"Most importantly, women's safety must be ensured 100%. There must be no compromise on this. Special arrangements for women's safety must be made without fail. District collectors and police superintendents must give this their sharpest and most special attention," CM Vijay directed.
Officers were also told to conduct direct field inspections to verify how government schemes are being implemented on the ground, and to extend full cooperation to ministers and MLAs during official inspection visits.
To prevent drug-related crimes, CM Vijay instructed officers to continuously monitor and inspect shops near schools. Student and child safety must receive priority attention.
Border districts such as Thiruvallur, Kanyakumari, and Tenkasi — through which drugs and mineral resources are being smuggled — must be strictly monitored and firm action taken, the Chief Minister directed.
Officers were additionally instructed to take preventive measures against crowd crushes at temple festivals, political rallies, and large public gatherings.
The conference resumed on its second day at 9:30 AM at the Namakkal Kavigar Maligai hall within the Secretariat complex, with forest department senior officials and district collectors in attendance.
The Chief Minister listened carefully to officials' views on scheme implementation in every district and the scope for administrative reform.
The conference concluded at 6 PM with CM Vijay addressing the full gathering and presenting awards to district collectors and police officers who had demonstrated outstanding performance.
