A stampede broke out during a TVK public meeting in Karur on September 27 last year, claiming 41 lives. The incident sent shockwaves across the country, and a CBI inquiry is currently under way under Supreme Court supervision.
At the time, Chief Minister Vijay was unable to travel to Karur in person due to security and police advisories. He consoled the victims' families via video call and later invited them to Mamallapuram for an in-person meeting. Each affected family was provided ₹20 lakh in financial assistance, transferred directly into their bank accounts. Vijay had also pledged further support based on individual family circumstances.
Against this backdrop, Chief Minister Vijay will visit Karur on July 10 and 11. During the two-day trip, he is scheduled to meet the families of those who died in the stampede and offer his condolences in person. He will also participate in government events and formally launch welfare scheme works in the district.
Following Karur, Vijay plans to embark on a broader district tour across Tamil Nadu to personally thank the public for their support in the recent election. As part of the tour, he will attend official functions at district collector offices and inaugurate new government schemes.
