Chennai Metro Rail Carries Over 90 Lakh Passengers in April 2026

Chennai Metro Rail's management shared the following in an official post on X (formerly Twitter):

Chennai Metro Rail Corporation continues to provide reliable and safe transport to the residents of Chennai and its commuters. In April 2026, a total of 90,18,069 passengers traveled on Chennai Metro Rail, the corporation announced.

The highest single-day ridership was recorded on 2 April 2026, when 3,65,807 passengers used the metro.

Ticket-Type Breakdown for April 2026

• Singara Chennai Card (National Common Mobility Card): 45,18,247 passengers
• Travel Cards (Travel Card Ticketing System): 25,659 passengers
• QR Code Tickets (total): 44,74,163 passengers, comprising:
  • Single Journey Paper QR / Token: 17,83,530
  • Online QR: 1,23,723
  • Static QR: 1,89,993
  • WhatsApp (+91 83000 86000): 4,20,792
  • Paytm: 2,82,290
  • ONDC: 11,48,235
  • PhonePe: 2,39,157
  • CMRL Mobile App: 61,393
  • Chennai One App: 1,84,785
  • Event QR: 40,265

Fare Discount

Chennai Metro Rail offers a 20% fare discount to passengers who use digital ticketing options such as Digital SVP, QR Code tickets, WhatsApp, Paytm App, PhonePe, and the Singara Chennai Card. This discount does not apply to single-journey paper QR tickets purchased at station counters.
