College Student Dies by Suicide After Parents Scold Him Over Mobile Phone Use

Ramesh, a resident of Sapapathi Street, Sangiliyandapuram, Palakkarai, Trichy, has an 18-year-old son named Harithas. Harithas was enrolled in the first year of a Hotel Management programme at a private college in Trichy.

He had been frequently using his mobile phone, and his parents scolded him repeatedly over the habit. Distressed by the reprimand, Harithas hanged himself at home two days ago.

Palakkarai police were alerted and arrived at the scene. They took possession of the body and sent it to Trichy Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way.
