Ahead of the IPL 2026 matches being held in Chennai, Chennai Metro Rail Limited has announced a special travel plan to ease the journey for cricket fans. The initiative aims to manage crowd congestion and help supporters reach the stadium without difficulty.
On match days, additional metro services will be operated and late-night services have been extended. The last train from Government Garden Metro Station towards the Airport and Wimco Nagar will depart at 1:00 AM midnight. Passengers on the Green Line will need to change routes at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M. G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station.
The league match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians is scheduled to be held on May 2, 2026, at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. The Government Garden Metro Station, located closest to the stadium, has been designated as the primary alighting point for match-goers.
The plan is being implemented in partnership with Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited. Fans attending the match in person can travel conveniently using the special metro concession.
Using the QR code or barcode provided on their match entry ticket, fans can travel on the metro completely free of charge, with a return trip included. This concession is valid from any metro station in Chennai to the station nearest the stadium.
